JUAN A. PEREZ BERMUDA 1-2 SPORTMANSHIP AWARD

        One for each boat entered that completes either one or both legs of the race

STORIES:

• Drew Wood and his new rudder made by his father Dean Wood installed in Bermuda
• Everest Horizontal leaving Sunday morning in Bermuda caused a mad scramble to reset Hunter’s Child’s anchor.  Also, Thursday morning Everest Horizontal swong around 180 degrees due to wind shift and ended up causing another mad scramble to reset Arian’s anchor.  And of course the turtling of the boat 110 miles out from Bermuda.  Late to the starting line both times
• Threshold took Peter McCrea, Dave Sherman, Tom Whayman and myself to the west side of the island to watch the Bermuda Dinghy races.  This boat has everything including washer/dryer, no hot tub though, nice boat.  Thumbs get a workout, electric winches!
• Getting out to the starting line.  Wazimo grounds getting out of his “slip”.  Everyone leaves last minute so it was chaos with the boats on the west side of the dock having to motor forward to pick up the anchor.  Race Committee helping so we got setup on the line with 5 minutes to spare.
• Ted Robinson solo both trips, first time doing the 1-2.  Goose neck broke and had to get fixed in Bermuda.  Was very talkative during chat hours.  Seem to thoroughly enjoy the experience.
• Palangi – On the way out, hadn’t heard from Palangi since the night of the start and that he had auto pilot problems but would continue albeit slowly.  His wife called but not in a panic (not a new experience).  However his mother called the Coast Guard.  Fortunately he finally connected with Topaz and Lolligag.
• John Drozdal, Ariana invited a bunch of us below to have some Dark & Stormys in the morning of his arrival into Newport. 
• We took Pat Clayton’s Floating Point to greet Margret Anna at the finish.  We met them, motored around them, took pictures, then headed back to Newport.  The motor overheated due to an unknown leak.  We hailed Tim for a tow.  As we are coming into the Harbor, Tim goes below and comes up with a camera.  He took a picture of us being towed by him.  Talk about embarrassing.
• Many tiller auto pilots broke either down or back.  Wildeyes broke both of his and his wind vane wind blades broke.  He ended up fashioning a piece of fiberglass he had to replace the wind blades and it worked for the rest of the way back to Newport.  Trpxprs, Windswept and Fun had inboard engine problems after finishing here in Newport and they wouldn’t start.  No outboard engines were a problem?
• Speaking about Wildeyes, he missed the channel and ran aground telling all that he was in the middle of the channel.  Where did that coral come from?
• Lolligag return trip! Ned Caswell developed an infection in Bermuda which he though was OK to sail back with but it got worse and decided to go back to Bermuda to get it under control.  Ned later sailed back by himself.
